Cydia Updates That Matter

WinterBoard (0.9.2958-2), WinterBoard Settings (0.51) & Mobile Substrate (0.9.2958-1) now works on 3GS! Available in Cydia 3.0

Saurik has just released a new update of MobileSubstrate and Winterboard. This updates adds the compatibility with the iPhone so 3Gs, so from now you can use custom themes on the new device.

To update / install the two applications you only need to launch Cydia and look in the “Changes” or “Search”.

I will post some screenshots later if it’s significant enough. I only have an iPhone 3G at the moment.

Facebook 3.0 Update Coming Soon

Keep your eyes on the update tab in the App Store! Facebook will be releasing an update to their iPhone app very soon! I have to admit I’m pretty excited about this. Right now, the app is very clunky not to mention the major bug of messages from groups in your inbox don’t show up. There’s lots to be excited about though. Here’s a list of upcoming features straight from the developer’s Facebook account:

Facebook for iPhone 3.0 is coming very soon. I can’t predict an exact date when I will submit to Apple, but I can say that I am about 98% done. So what’s new in this update?

The one feature everyone is asking for, Push Notifications, is in development but it won’t make it into 3.0. You can expect it in a 3.1 update later this summer.

Cydia 1.0.2953-59 – Side Scroll Alphabet Returns

Cydia has been updated to version 1.0.2953-59. This update adds the letters back into the Search menu as well as in the Manage > Packages option.

It’s pretty much the same as your contacts list… so yeah… wahoo!…

UPDATE: After reviewing this app futher, I have deemed it useless. It has however introduced me to SwagBucks, so thats cool, but this app is just basically Safari. The guy is just trying to milk some invite credits for new users.

Tonight Scrobbl was released on the BigBoss repo that works for iPhone OS 3.0.

Last.fm is an internet radio station and music community that records the tracks you listen to, and creates charts and personalised radio stations based on your musical tastes.

Now working in iPhone OS 3.0! I’m a fan of this because it’s always interesting to go back and see your listening pattern.

Every track you play will tell your Last.fm profile something about what you like. It can connect you to other people who like what you like – and recommend songs from their music collections and yours too.

iRealSMS 2.0.9.1 – Now works on iPhone OS 3.0

One of my favorite features, in fact probably the ONLY feature, i use is the ability to reply without opening the messaging app. This saves an incredible amount of time.

Last night iRealSMS 2.0.9.1 was released and I’m glad to say it works great on the new OS 3.0. I had troubles at first with the first few betas, but it works now. I’m not too fond of the messaging app they use, but like I said, I basically only use the quick reply. Although I kind of like it when it just had one line instead of 4. It as cleaner. Oh well. Here is some additional information:

Take 4MP (Megapixel) Photos with your iPhone 3G – ClearCam 1.1.2

Occipital’s ClearCam is another in a long line of photo enhancing apps for the iPhone. ClearCam is going live today on Cydia, so at this point it is only available for jailbroken iPhones. The developer says he hopes a version for all iPhones will make it to the App Store soon.

ClearCam has a couple of interesting modes. Enhanced mode will give you a 4MP image rather than the standard 2 MP image you get now on the iPhone. The magic is done by having the camera take 6 pictures in rapid succession. The software then aligns and enhances the photo and saves it to your camera roll. When you compare the image to a normal one, they look the same, but you can enlarge the image more than a 2MP image, and the noise is noticeably lower. You should be able to see the difference in the gallery image below. That function may not be to Apple’s liking, because it breaks the SDK rules of how software can interact with the camera.

In ClearCam’s other mode, called QuickShot, it fires off 4 images, figures out which image is best, and throws the bad ones away. I tried using this mode, and it worked as advertised. The results weren’t dramatic, but were easy to see.

Backup Your Cydia Apps – AptBackup 1.1-7 Now Works for OS 3.0

This app will backup your Cydia installed app list. This does not back up your actual apps or app settings. But it is close. It will make a list of everything you installed from Cydia and back that up. When you restore, it will reinstall all the packages in one step. The list is stored with other settings files and backed up with iTunes. After you restore your iPhone and restore your backup in iTunes, run the restore function in AptBackup and it should find and restore your apps.

AptBackup has been updated to 1.1-7 and now works with the recent OS 3.0 release. If you have a problem remembering your apps, or if you have a shitload that you don’t want to remember, then this app is for you.
